PUBLIC GIFTS/DONATIONS TO SCHOOLS

Frequently industry, business, or financial institutions and private citizens or groups of citizens wish to donate or buy materials, equipment, or supplies for the use of students and employees of the Vermilion Parish School Board.  At times, there may be some spin-off costs or other liability upon acceptance of such donations/gifts.  The Superintendent and staff must be able to assure the School Board the receipt and use of such gifts shall not impede the normal program through the acceptance of equipment or substances which do not meet specific or general School Board regulations as to their content or condition.  This is vital to protect the School Board and school district from any liability claims emanating from the use of such gifts.

The Vermilion Parish School Board, through the Superintendent, may accept gifts of money from individuals or organizations, for the purpose of improving the school plant or facilities or to enhance the educational opportunity of children in Vermilion Parish.  Acknowledgment of the receipt of such gifts shall be given in the form of an I/A Report at the next regularly scheduled School Board meeting.

Gifts of equipment or supplies shall be accepted by the Superintendent only after they have been properly evaluated by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

All gifts, irrespective of their source, shall become the sole property of the School Board to use, reassign location, or otherwise dispose of in any manner or means which is considered by the Superintendent to be in the best interest of the school district.
